Trust Activities

Trust members have varied interests and this is reflected in the activities carried out.  Have a look at some of the things we do

Underground Trips

Members explore mines in Shropshire and also further afield in other parts of the UK like Derbyshire, Wales, Cleveland and Ireland.

Walks

We organise walks, not only to look at mine sites but also social history, ecology and even ghosts of the area.

Mining Memorials

Thanks to the donation of a number of mine trucks from Joy Mining, and a grant from Yorkshire Bank PLC towards the cost of sandblasting, we are in a position to site a number of mining memorials locally. Each memorial will consist of a mine truck welded to rails and sleepers with a special plaque.

The first one was placed at Stiperstones School in June 1999 and others have been placed at Severn Valley Country Park and Westbury School.

Railway

Mines used a lot of railway track and we are re-laying some at Snailbeach Mine, both on surface and underground. We have to first of all collect it, like here at Llanfair Light Railway.  Much of this was laid in Day Level on ballast.
