We
have a large collection of mining tools and equipment from coal,
metalliferous and other mines. We
display these at our sites or supply them to other organisations on long term
loan. |
Whiteboard In September, we were asked
by the National Trust to lead groups into a tunnel under the reservoir in
Cardingmill Valley. See HERE for pictures. The Trust has published a new book on the Snailbeach Lead Mine and this is highly recommended for anyone wishing to learn more about this fascinating site. |
We
manage the Snailbeach Lead Mine near Minsterley and carry out preservation
and research, as well as showing visitors around the surface and
underground. Many of our artefacts are
displayed here. |

We
demonstrate some of our working mining machinery and tools at various shows
such as the annual Onslow Steam Rally. Our display is based on a lorry
trailer, courtesy of T O Tomlins Ltd. |
We
own the Tankerville Lead Mine that we are preserving and making more
accessible to the public. This once
had the deepest shaft in the orefield at 1,690ft. Visitors should note that access is via
steep steps. |

Members
and Friends receive four newsletters per year containing information on
mining history both locally and further afield. These also notify details of ongoing
projects and working meets. |

We recently made a 180lb
replica Roman lead ingot (called a pig).
This was the first time it had been done for almost 2,000 years! The inscription is the same as that on
genuine examples found locally. |
